Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu remains in prison custody despite being acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal, according to Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu has not yet been released because the Attorney-General has filed an application for a stay of execution and intends to challenge the Court of Appeal's decision at the Supreme Court.

The Chief Justice has granted permission for the Court of Appeal to sit during the legal vacation to hear the Attorney-General's application for a stay of execution with the hearing scheduled for August 16.

The Attorney-General argues that the former MASLOC boss could leave the country before the Supreme Court determines the State's intended appeal and is therefore seeking to keep her in custody until the legal process is concluded.

The Court of Appeal recently overturned Tamakloe-Attionu's 10-year prison sentence after ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. 

However, the State's decision to seek a stay of execution means she remains in custody pending the determination of the Attorney-General's application and the intended appeal to the Supreme Court.
