A farmer in the Agotime-Ziope district of the Volta Region, Madam Selorm Saviour, has lauded the government's “Nkoko Nkitinki” initiative, describing it as a major source of employment for the youth.

Speaking about her experience, Madam Selorm, who is based at Agortime, disclosed that she successfully brooded over 7,500 birds within four weeks as stipulated in his contract under the Ministry's program.

According to her, after the four-week brooding period, the birds were evenly distributed to various beneficiaries. 

However, demand exceeded supply, creating some pressure during distribution.

Following this, the Member of Parliament for Agotime-Ziope took a bold initiative to bring an additional 1,000 birds to her for brooding.

"To the glory of God, the brooding was successful. I brooded the birds with all treatments in place and in the end, the birds were evenly distributed to the beneficiaries. Out of 1,000 birds which I brooded, the mortality rate was only five, which was a great work," she said.

Madam Selorm noted that the initiative is not just about poultry but about livelihoods. 

He revealed that he could not handle the 7,500 birds alone and had to employ four workers to support her.

"When the birds came, I saw it as a source of employment to the youth because I couldn't do the work alone. So I had to recruit about four workers to support me to do this work, which was a source of income to them as well," she explained.

She has therefore appealed to the Minister to continue the program to help more young people find sustainable means of supporting their families.
