UE/R: Soldier killed during counter-terrorism training exercise
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has announced the death of a physical training instructor with the 6th Infantry Battalion following an incident during a counter-terrorism training exercise in the Upper East Region.
The deceased officer, identified as 218079 Private Adotey of the 6th Infantry Battalion, reportedly died in a blast during an operation within the Binduri Forest in the Binduri District.
The incident occurred during “Exercise Storm Shield,” a counter-terrorism training programme designed to strengthen the preparedness and operational capabilities of security personnel in responding to emerging security threats.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the exercise, Major General Gbetanu expressed sorrow over the death of the soldier, describing him as a dedicated officer who died in the line of duty.
He extended condolences to the bereaved family, personnel of the 6th Infantry Battalion, and the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Army Chief stressed the importance of the exercise in improving national security, particularly in border communities vulnerable to violent extremism and terrorism-related threats.
He added that investigations into the incident are ongoing and assured the public of the military’s continued commitment to protecting lives and maintaining peace across the country.
