The Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, has visited the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to assess ongoing efforts aimed at transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector and strengthening food security.

The engagement brought together senior officials of the Ministry, where the sector Minister, Eric Opoku, outlined key policies and interventions being implemented to drive agricultural growth and economic transformation.

Central to the discussions was the government’s flagship Feed Ghana Programme, which seeks to boost domestic food production and reduce reliance on imports.

The Minister highlighted measures to strengthen the National Food Buffer Stock Company, expand irrigation infrastructure and increase vegetable production to ensure a stable food supply.

The Vice President was also briefed on plans to revitalise the poultry sector to support economic growth and improve protein intake, particularly among school children.

In addition, the Ministry outlined targeted programmes aimed at empowering vulnerable women through access to resources and opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods.

Officials further emphasised investments in support services such as soil and crop testing to improve yields, as well as initiatives to develop value chains through enhanced processing and marketing of agricultural produce.

The establishment of Farmer Service Centres across districts was also highlighted as a key step towards modernising agriculture.

The centres are expected to provide farmers with access to machinery and technical expertise to boost productivity.

The Ministry indicated that the National Food Buffer Stock system has made significant progress in terms of storage capacity and financial management, positioning it to support the government’s broader vision of achieving food security.
