Ga South residents threaten retaliation over killing of Nigerian landlord by landguards
Tension is rising in Bankan-Bosuafise in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region following the killing of a Nigerian landlord, Precious Mundi, by suspected landguards.
The incident, which has left another victim in critical condition, reportedly occurred after the deceased and his surveyor refused to pay an alleged “picking fee” demanded by the landguards.
Angered by the development, residents have warned of possible retaliation if authorities fail to ensure justice.
Assemblyman for the area, Gilbert Afeke Kwame, described the attack as unfortunate, expressing concern over the increasing activities of landguards in the Denchira enclave.
He also cited inadequate police resources as a major challenge in addressing the situation.
The community chief, Nii Odamitey I, has called on the Interior Minister, the Inspector-General of Police and President John Dramani Mahama to urgently intervene and ensure the arrest of those responsible.
He warned that failure to act could compel the community to confront the landguards at their hideouts.
Nii Odamitey I further alleged that multiple petitions have been submitted against an individual identified only as “BB”, who is believed to have recruited the landguards, but no action has been taken.
He also accused some local police officers of allegedly colluding with the landguard groups.
Several residents and opinion leaders who spoke to a correspondent of Class Media Group said they are prepared to defend their ancestral lands against the activities of landguards.
The situation has heightened security concerns in the area, with residents calling for swift intervention to prevent further violence.
