GCAA: Microlight aircraft crashes in Tema; 2 people on board, 3rd feared victim’s identity unclear
A microlight aircraft with registration number 9G-ADV crashed in Tema on Monday, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has confirmed.
The aircraft was flying from Ho to Accra, with an estimated arrival time of 3:20 PM. The last radio contact was made at 2:18 PM. There were two people on board at the time of the incident.
Authorities have confirmed that emergency teams are on site, monitoring the situation and coordinating rescue and recovery operations. The GCAA has stated that further details will be released as the investigation continues.
Earlier reports from the crash site indicated that three charred bodies had been removed. With the GCAA confirming only two passengers were aboard, the identity of the third victim remains unknown, raising questions that authorities are yet to clarify.
The GCAA continues to work closely with emergency responders as investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, established in 1986, is responsible for regulating air transport in Ghana, including air navigation services, licensing, and aerodrome operations. The agency also oversees economic regulation, consumer protection, and efficient aviation operations.
