Minority demands urgent payment of fees for Ghanaian students in UK
The Minority Caucus in Parliament is demanding the immediate payment of outstanding tuition fees for Ghanaian scholarship students at the University of Birmingham.
According to the Minority, the government has failed to honour its financial obligations under the scholarship programme administered by the Ghana Scholarship Authority.
The students’ visas have expired, and attempts to secure graduate visas have been unsuccessful, leaving many at risk of removal.
In a press conference, the Member of Parliament for Sevelugu, Madam Abdul Aziz Fatahiya, urged the relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to resolve this matter.
When Ghana invests in its young people, the nation must stand firmly behind them,” she noted.
The Minority is, however, calling for urgent government intervention, including the immediate settlement of fees and diplomatic engagement with UK authorities to prevent further hardship for the affected students.
They warn that failure to act could damage Ghana’s international reputation and undermine confidence in its scholarship programmes.
