Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings elected 2nd Deputy President of Pan-African Parliament
In a session held in Johannesburg, the Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been elected as the 2nd Deputy President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
The election concluded with Dr Agyeman-Rawlings securing 131 votes, defeating her opponent who received 51 votes.
Historical Milestone for West Africa
With this victory, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings becomes the first female representative from the West African Caucus to hold the position of 2nd Deputy President in the history of the continental body.
Role and Mandate
As a member of the PAP Bureau, she will join the leadership team responsible for coordinating the business of the Parliament and overseeing its various directorates.
The Pan-African Parliament serves as the legislative arm of the African Union, intended to ensure the full participation of African peoples in the economic development and integration of the continent.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, who currently serves as a Member of Parliament for the Klottey-Korle constituency in Ghana, will now balance her national legislative duties with this new continental leadership role.
