Passenger train services resume on Kojokrom–Sekondi–Takoradi line after two years
Train services have resumed on the Kojokrom–Sekondi–Takoradi route in the Western Region after almost two years of inactivity, restoring rail transport along the 15-kilometre stretch.
The restart, which took place on Friday, April 24, 2026, has been welcomed by residents and commuters as a boost to mobility and local economic activity within the Sekondi-Takoradi area.

The relaunch was led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Railway Development Authority, Dr Frederick Appoh, alongside the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, and other officials.
It follows months of rehabilitation works under the government’s broader transport renewal programme being implemented as part of the administration of John Dramani Mahama.

Dr Appoh said the restored rail service is expected to improve movement between communities, support trade, and contribute to economic revival in the area.
For many passengers and traders along the corridor, the return of train operations represents improved convenience and a more affordable transport option.
