Ntim Fordjour urges AG to implement Anti-LGBTQ bill within 12months
The Member of Parliament for Assin South , John Ntim Fordjour, has called on the Attorney-General to ensure the effective implementation of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill within a year of its passage.
According to him, the Attorney-General should, within 12 months after Parliament approves the legislation, initiate the necessary regulations to operationalise the law.
His remarks come in response to concerns by members of Parliament’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, who noted that some ministers often fail to follow through with the required legislative instruments after successfully steering bills through Parliament.
Speaking on the second day of stakeholder consultations on the proposed law, the Assin South lawmaker stressed the need for firm enforcement once the bill is enacted.
“It is expected that with close collaboration between the sponsors and the relevant ministries, the minister responsible in this context will, as a matter of urgency, take steps as soon as it is assented to by the President. So within one year, we should have the full bill with the necessary implementation strategies to be able to see it running,” he said.
