Minority making impact despite numbers disadvantage – Ahmed Shaib
The Second Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has said the Minority in Parliament continues to exert strong influence despite being outnumbered by the Majority.
Speaking on Accra-based Bullet TV, Mr. Shaib noted that while the Majority holds the numerical advantage to pass decisions, the Minority relies on detailed debates and quality contributions to shape national discourse.
According to him, the Minority has adopted a deliberate approach, using press conferences, official statements, and parliamentary debates to highlight key national issues and promote accountability.
He explained that pressure is inherent in parliamentary work for both sides but argued that the Majority faces greater expectations to deliver on promises made to Ghanaians.
Mr. Shaib also addressed criticism over the Minority’s frequent media engagements, stating that such efforts are necessary to properly inform the public and create a record of their positions on national matters.
He cited major parliamentary discussions, including debates on the State of the Nation Address, as examples of how the Minority presents alternative perspectives and contributes meaningfully to governance.
“Impact in Parliament is not only about numbers but also about substance, consistency, and the ability to speak on issues that matter to the people,” he said.
Mr. Shaib reaffirmed the Minority’s commitment to active engagement in Parliament and pledged to continue holding the government accountable in the interest of the public.
