Energy Minister engages ECG and NEDCo to address power outages and strengthen electricity supply
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has held high-level engagements with key power sector stakeholders to assess challenges within Ghana’s electricity distribution system and chart a path toward improved service delivery.
The meeting brought together officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), alongside other industry players, to review ongoing efforts to address isolated power outages in parts of the country.
Discussions focused on persistent operational challenges within the distribution chain, including transformer overloads and ageing infrastructure, which continue to undermine reliable electricity supply.
According to the Minister, these constraints reflect years of underinvestment, particularly at a time when electricity demand has surged due to rapid urbanisation and expanding economic activity.
Dr Jinapor noted that the government, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, is undertaking significant investments aimed at modernising and expanding power infrastructure, strengthening system capacity, and improving overall reliability.
He further directed ECG and NEDCo to intensify their response to outages, stressing the need for swift, coordinated action and improved communication with the public.
“Ghanaians deserve timely service and clear communication, and we expect nothing less,” he emphasised.
The Minister assured the public that government is working with urgency to resolve the remaining pockets of outages and restore stable power supply across affected areas.
