TTAG calls for suspension of Teacher recruitment exercise over unfair conditions

The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has appealed to the government to put the ongoing teacher recruitment exercise on hold, raising concerns over what it describes as unjust and difficult conditions facing trainee teachers.

Addressing a press briefing on Wednesday, the association outlined five major demands it wants resolved as a matter of urgency, cautioning that inaction could lead to protests across the country.

TTAG noted that the relatively small number of available positions—around 7,000—has deepened frustration among many qualified teachers who have remained unemployed for several years.

The association also highlighted what it considers an unfair development in the hiring process, where graduates from three different cohorts are being made to compete for the same limited number of openings.

It further warned that it is prepared to rally its members nationwide if authorities fail to suspend the recruitment exercise after its deadline lapses.

TTAG is additionally calling on the government to consult relevant stakeholders and introduce a more equitable system that takes into account the increasing number of trained teachers entering the workforce each year.
