Gov't launches Free Primary Healthcare programme to expand access nationwide
The Government of Ghana is set to officially launch its Free Primary Healthcare Programme today, in a major move toward achieving Universal Health Coverage(UHC) across the country.
The initiative aims to ensure that all Ghanaians can access essential primary healthcare services at no cost at the point of use, removing financial barriers that often prevent people from seeking timely medical care.
The programme is expected to particularly benefit residents in underserved and rural communities, where access to affordable healthcare remains a challenge.
Under the initiative, services will be delivered through existing health infrastructure, including Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, health centres, and polyclinics across the country.
Health officials say the rollout marks a significant step in improving access to basic healthcare and strengthening the country’s primary healthcare system.
The government has indicated that the programme forms part of broader efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure equitable access to essential services for all citizens.![]()
