The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, has announced significant progress in the country’s fight against Malaria, citing reductions in both cases and deaths.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra to mark World Malaria Day 2026, Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe underscored the need for intensified efforts to eliminate the disease entirely.

He attributed the gains to sustained public health interventions, including increased access to preventive measures, improved diagnosis, and effective treatment strategies.

Despite the progress, he stressed that malaria remains a major public health concern and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders, including government agencies, development partners, and communities.

Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe also emphasised the importance of sustained funding and heightened public awareness, noting that continued investment and behavioural change are critical to achieving long-term success.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and adopt preventive practices such as the use of insecticide-treated nets and early reporting of symptoms.
