Energy Committee backs Ghana Gas, commends improved performance
The Parliamentary-Select Committee on Energy has pledged its full support to the Ghana National Gas Company, describing the state-owned firm as “on top of its game” and well-positioned to deliver on its mandate.
Chairman of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, gave the assurance during a working visit to the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant on Friday, April 24, 2026.
The visit formed part of efforts by the Committee to gain first-hand insight into the operations, achievements, and challenges of the company.
“Upon our visit, we have seen that Ghana Gas is on top of its game,” Mr. Bedzrah said. “They have our full support. We will also work to address the few challenges raised, including concerns about high tariff increases by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission.”
Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Judith Adowba Blay, told the Committee that the company has made significant operational gains, particularly in boosting gas production.
She disclosed that output has increased from 100 million standard cubic feet per day to 120 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), attributing the improvement to reduced downtime and enhanced operational efficiency.
“Ghana Gas is ever ready. Since last year, our production has gone up. Earlier, we faced more downtime at the plant, but under this administration, things have improved,” she stated.
The Ranking Member of the Committee, Collins Adomako Mensah, also commended management for the progress made and urged the company to sustain its performance.
“We commend Ghana Gas for the work done so far and encourage them to do more to secure Ghana’s energy future,” he said.
The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant remains a key national asset, supplying processed gas for power generation and industrial use, with its performance considered crucial to Ghana’s energy security.
