The Western Regional Health Directorate has assured the public that power has been fully restored at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital following a recent outage that briefly affected operations.

The assurance comes in response to a viral social media post raising concerns about patient care, particularly in the hospital’s theatre, during the incident.

In a statement issued on April 18, 2026, the Regional Director of Health Services, Marion Okoh-Owusu, confirmed that all clinical and support services at the facility are now functioning normally.

She noted that patient safety remained a top priority throughout the disruption and emphasized that no fatalities were recorded.

According to the Directorate, the incident occurred on Thursday, April 16, 2026, when the hospital experienced a disruption in the main grid power supply.

Although the standby generator had functioned during a previous outage, it failed to start automatically on this occasion.

The hospital’s in-house clinical engineering team responded promptly, with additional technical support mobilised from Accra. Engineers from Cummins, the manufacturers of the generator, were also deployed to the facility to conduct assessments and restore the system to optimal performance.

Dr. Okoh-Owusu acknowledged the concerns expressed by the public, stating that such feedback reflects the trust placed in the health facility and underscores the need for continuous improvement.

She assured that measures are being strengthened to prevent a recurrence and reiterated the hospital’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare.

The Directorate reaffirmed that the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital remains fully operational and dedicated to providing safe and efficient medical services to the public.
