NPP running mate attends Obasanjo’s 89th birthday colloquium in Nigeria
The 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has participated in activities marking the 89th birthday of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo in Nigeria.
The celebrations featured an international colloquium held under the theme “The Burden and Blessing of Leadership,” which brought together leaders and participants to reflect on decades of public service, leadership and governance.
Speaking after the event, Dr. Opoku Prempeh described the colloquium as a valuable learning experience, noting that reflections drawn from Mr. Obasanjo’s extensive career—spanning military leadership, national governance and global diplomacy—offered important lessons in statesmanship.
As part of his visit, the NPP running mate toured the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library and held a private meeting with the former Nigerian leader.
He presented a piece of Kente cloth as a symbol of Ghana’s cultural heritage and a gesture of appreciation for Mr. Obasanjo’s contribution to Africa’s development.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh noted that the engagement had reinforced his commitment to the principles of servant leadership, emphasising the importance of continuous learning in public service.
