Woman confronts Methodist pastors over tithe policy
A dramatic scene unfolded at the Wesley Cathedral Methodist Church in Sunyani when a female congregant openly accused the pastor and elders of being “thieves.”
Her outburst was triggered by a church policy that allegedly denies financial support to members who do not pay tithes, even during funerals or emergencies.
She argued that if non-tithers are branded “armed robbers,” then the same label should apply to pastors and elders who benefit from tithe collections.
The woman questioned the fairness of giving large sums in tithes while receiving little or no assistance during times of crisis. She insisted that she preferred to use her money for personal needs rather than contribute to a system she considered exploitative.
