The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Mahama administration and the judiciary of deliberately undermining Ghana’s justice system to free NDC-affiliated persons standing trial for crimes against the State.

At a press conference today, the NPP said the acquittal of former MASLOC CEO Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu was “not an isolated judicial outcome” but part of a coordinated pattern.

“What we witnessed yesterday was not an isolated judicial outcome; it was the unmasking of a system, and this morning we intend to name it, expose it, and confront it,” the party declared.

The NPP said since January 2025, the government has run a “shameful project” to shield allies. 

First, the party alleged, the Attorney-General used nolle prosequi and discontinuances to drop cases against “virtually every person affiliated to the governing party”.

When that could not work for Tamakloe who had already been convicted and sentenced to 10 years for causing GH¢90 million in financial loss, the party claims the Court of Appeal became the “back door”.

Tamakloe was convicted in April 2024 in absentia and was extradited from the US on 9th June 2026 but was acquired by the Appeal’s Court a few weeks after she was extradited to Ghana. 

“What could not be achieved through the front door of a nolle prosequi has now been achieved through the back door,” the NPP said.

Key Accusations Against Mahama Government And The Judiciary

The NPP further raised three key charges against the government and the judiciary.

Politicised Judiciary 

In the acquital of Sedinam Tamakloe, the party said it “defies law, logic and common sense” given the High Court’s detailed findings of fraudulent disbursements, including funds for Kantamanto market victims. 

It accused the courts of delivering outcomes that “track political colours rather than the evidence and the law”.

Orchestrated cover-Up 

The NPP also called the Tamakloe ruling “politically motivated, orchestrated and planned” adding that the “speed and convenience” of the disposal leaves no other conclusion.

Two sets of justice

The NPP alleged the government’s message is “accountability is for opponents, and impunity is for friends," saying ongoing trials against NPP appointees must be discontinued immediately.

The NPP also highlighted a number of high profile trials involving prominent NDC members including Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and Ernest Thompson which the Attorney General has discontinued for no reason. 

The NPP called on the Attorney General to publish a full list of all cases discontinued involving NDC-affiliated persons since January 2025 with reasons.

“When justice is dispensed on the basis of party affiliation, the very foundation of our constitutional democracy is imperiled,” the NPP warned.
