Zoomlion backs government’s national general clean-up exercise in flood-affected regions
Zoomlion Ghana Limited has pledged its support for the government's national general clean-up exercise scheduled for Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, in flood-affected regions across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 8, the waste management company welcomed the government's declaration of the two days as national general cleaning days and commended President John Dramani Mahama for what it described as a timely intervention following the recent floods.
Zoomlion said it was fully prepared to support the exercise through its nationwide operational network after discussions with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The company said it would make available its regional, district and municipal offices, equipment, logistics and personnel to support Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and affected communities.
According to the statement, its support will include the deployment of sanitation personnel, provision of waste collection trucks, skip containers, compactors and other heavy-duty equipment, evacuation and safe disposal of collected waste and silt, desilting of drains and waterways, cleaning of roads, markets, lorry parks, public spaces and drainage channels, disinfection of flood-affected public areas, and technical support for MMDAs and other stakeholders.
The company also said it was prepared to continue its operations beyond the two-day exercise where necessary, working with the relevant authorities to help restore affected communities to safe and healthy conditions.
Zoomlion urged residents, community leaders, businesses, institutions and civil society organisations to participate in the clean-up exercise, describing environmental sanitation as a shared national responsibility requiring sustained collaboration to reduce the risk of future flooding.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to providing environmental sanitation services in support of public health and national development.
