A/R: 12 arrested in robbery crackdown, 3 linked to Asawase chief’s killing

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 12 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting robbery activities across the Ashanti Region, with three of those apprehended linked to the killing of a Kusasi chief at Asawase in Kumasi.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the arrests form part of a broader effort to dismantle criminal networks operating within the region.

Police identified the suspects as Abdalah Alhassan, Jemini Usman (also known as Babamu), Aminu Iddrisu (alias 0244), Illiasu Dauda, Majeed Issaka Jibril, Gafaru Ibrahim, Mohammed Mumuni (alias Mama), Tanko Malik (alias Bronze), Mohammed Bawa (alias Mallam), Dramani Musah, Suleman Yasir Arafat (alias Obasanjo), and Ashaidu Sumbieda (alias Eyeshadow).

Investigators say three suspects, Jemini Usman (Babamu), Suleman Yasir Arafat (Obasanjo), and Ashaidu Sumbieda (Eyeshadow), have been directly linked to the murder of the Kusasi Chief at Asawase.

As part of the operation, police retrieved a Toyota Corolla with registration number GC 439-21, believed to have been used by the suspects in their activities.

During the crackdown, two additional suspects, Illiasu Bawa and David Aheto, sustained gunshot wounds and were later pronounced dead.

A significant cache of weapons and ammunition was also recovered, including two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, two pistols, 44 rounds of .32 ammunition, and 24 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Police further disclosed that another suspect, identified as Illiasu, also known as Abodam, remains on the run. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend him and bring him to justice.

The Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the Ashanti Region.
