The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced plans to introduce a tertiary education scholarship scheme for the children of cocoa farmers beginning with the 2026/27 academic year.

The initiative was announced as part of COCOBOD's nationwide farmer sensitisation campaign on the reintroduced Free Fertiliser and Agro-Inputs Distribution Programme and broader reforms within Ghana's cocoa sector.

According to the Board, the scholarship programme forms part of efforts to improve the welfare of cocoa farming families while supporting the long-term development of the cocoa industry.

The scholarship scheme will be incorporated into the nationwide sensitisation exercise, during which farmers are being educated on new interventions and policy reforms.

The campaign, being undertaken by COCOBOD's Public Affairs Department in collaboration with the Cocoa Pest and Disease Control (CODAPEC) Unit of the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED), has already commenced in the Western South and Ashanti regions and will be extended to all cocoa-growing areas across the country.

COCOBOD said the broader engagement is intended to ensure farmers fully understand the new interventions, including the reintroduced free fertiliser programme and other measures designed to improve productivity and strengthen the sustainability of Ghana's cocoa sector.

The Board said the nationwide sensitisation campaign forms part of its wider communication and stakeholder engagement strategy to place cocoa farmers at the centre of the ongoing transformation of the cocoa industry through timely information sharing, transparent programme implementation and sustained dialogue with farming communities.
