The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed heads of Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) to immediately stop the collection of unauthorised fees and levies from parents and guardians.

In a statement dated September 23, 2026, GES said it had received reports that some school heads were collecting admission fees, PTA dues and other unauthorised charges from parents and guardians.

Management stressed that no student or parent should be compelled, directly or indirectly, to pay such fees as a condition for admission, enrolment, participation in school activities or access to school services.

GES also reminded school heads that the issue of PTA dues is currently pending before the courts. Until the matter is determined, discussions and collection of PTA dues and levies are to remain on hold.

The Service has further directed schools to refund any unauthorised fees or levies already collected and provide evidence of the refunds to GES Management.

According to the directive, persons found flouting the order will face appropriate administrative sanctions, including possible removal from office.

GES has also encouraged the public to report cases of unauthorised fees or levies to Management for investigation and necessary action.
