Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo has urged Ghanaians to discourage friends and relatives from collecting fuel from overturned tankers, warning that such actions put lives at risk.

Speaking at the 2026 NPA Consumer Week celebration in Kasoa, Mr. Tameklo cautioned the public against rushing to accident scenes to scoop spilled petroleum products.

He stressed that public safety must take priority, urging residents to resist any invitation to participate in such dangerous activities.

Mr Tameklo's appeal highlights the role of communities in preventing avoidable deaths and injuries whenever fuel tanker accidents occur.

He urged residents, community leaders and transport operators to discourage the practice and allow the appropriate emergency services to manage accident scenes.

He said protecting lives requires collective responsibility with individuals taking steps to prevent loved ones from exposing themselves to danger.

“Do not encourage your relatives or friends to go and scoop fuel from accident scenes. It is dangerous and could cost them their lives,” he warned.
