Officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, United States of America, have visited the father of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong following his fatal shooting in the Bronx.

The visit was carried out on the instructions of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, according to Fred Duhoe, Media Officer at the Ministry.

Mr Duhoe said the officials visited Javits’ father, Thomas Frimpong, at his home to commiserate with him and the family and convey the government’s support. The Minister has also spoken directly with Javits’ parents by phone.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Javits was fatally shot at about 9:20 AM on Thursday, October 29, 2026, by yet-to-be-identified assailants while he was on his way to school in the Bronx, New York.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, the Ministry said Mr Ablakwa assured Javits’ father of the government’s full support in the family’s pursuit of justice.

“We will pursue justice, and we'll make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” the Minister said.

The Minister, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, also extended condolences to the bereaved family.

“We are all saddened. We are all distraught. He did not deserve this,” he said.

The government has condemned the killing and urged authorities in the Bronx to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our Permanent Mission in New York will actively pursue justice working with US authorities. We stand ready to provide appropriate legal and consular assistance,” the statement said.

The Ministry said Ghana remains committed to the safety, dignity and well-being of its citizens “everywhere, any time, and in all circumstances.”

It also extended its condolences to Javits’ family, friends and loved ones in the United States and Ghana, particularly his mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, in Kumasi.

Mr Duhoe, in his Facebook post, thanked Ghanaian officers in New York for their swift response.
