SHS, SHTS, STEM schools: GES orders immediate suspension of graduation ceremonies in Greater Accra
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed all senior high schools, senior high technical schools and STEM schools in the Greater Accra Region to immediately suspend planned graduation ceremonies.
In a directive dated 26 June 2026, the Greater Accra Regional Directorate of Education said the decision follows the Ministry of Education's ban on graduation ceremonies, prom nights, leavers' celebrations and related activities involving pupils and students in pre-tertiary institutions, both public and private.
According to the Directorate, the policy is intended to promote discipline, equity and child protection, while preventing undue financial burdens on parents and guardians.
The directive instructed school authorities to halt all preparations and activities related to the events with immediate effect.
It further stated that no proprietor, proprietor's representative, teacher, Parent Association, School Management Committee (SMC) or any other stakeholder should organise, sponsor, facilitate or permit such activities under the auspices of schools until further notice.
Schools have also been directed to communicate the suspension to parents, pupils, students, staff and other stakeholders, withdraw all publicity materials and announcements relating to the events, and submit compliance reports to the Regional Director by Wednesday, 8 July 2026.
The Regional Directorate warned that failure to comply with the directive would attract appropriate administrative sanctions in accordance with GES regulations.
