A national call to action has been launched ahead of the rescheduled Wesley Girls’ High School (WGHS) 190th Anniversary Logo Unveiling, framing the milestone not merely as an alumni reunion, but as a historic campaign to preserve Ghana’s educational heritage.

The rescheduled event, taking place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 5 PM at the Wesley Towers Auditorium in Accra, will initiate a drive to raise GH¢6 million. The fundraising effort, spearheaded during a dedicated 40-minute segment by the award-winning physician, educator, and global health strategist Dr Bertha Serwaa Bonsu Ayi, aims to fund critical infrastructure projects: rebuilding the preschool and kindergarten facilities for a WGHS basic school in Cape Coast, and constructing a modern steam kitchen for the high school itself.

A Campaign of National Significance

Organisers are positioning the 190th-anniversary launch as an event of national import, asserting that Wesley Girls’ High School belongs to the broader educational fabric of Ghana. While the Old Girls’ Association (OGA) serves as the custodian of this heritage, the institution's future relies on securing support from the wider public.

Over its 190-year history, the school has produced women who have occupied key roles nationally and globally. Alumnae have served as doctors, judges, scientists, educators, entrepreneurs, ministers, diplomats, public servants, and business leaders. The upcoming anniversary serves as a call for a new generation of stakeholders to invest in the school to ensure it remains equipped for the next 190 years.

Introducing Landmark Philanthropic Initiatives

To support the school's long-term development beyond the anniversary celebrations, the event will introduce two permanent legacy initiatives:

- The Order of Companions of the Hill

- Friends of the Hill

These platforms are designed to establish a continuous culture of philanthropy, with attendees invited to learn how they can become founding members of both initiatives.

Originally postponed from July 3, due to severe flooding across Accra, the rescheduled ceremony will now proceed under the theme "Honouring Our Roots, Igniting Tomorrow".

The organisers have extended an open invitation to all individuals and organisations committed to girls' education, including:

- Wesley Girls' Old Girls across all year groups

- Current students and their parents

- Spouses, partners, and families of Old Girls

- Corporate leaders, business owners, and philanthropists

- Government officials, policymakers, and educational institutions
