Central Regional Minister cautions ISD staff against misuse of newly donated vehicles
The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Eduamoah Okyere, has cautioned staff of the Information Services Department (ISD) against the misuse of newly donated vehicles, urging that they be used strictly for official duties.
His warning follows the presentation of three vans to the department by government through the Ministry of Communications to enhance information dissemination across the region.
Speaking in an interview, the Minister expressed concern over the frequent misuse of government vehicles, citing instances where official assets, including ambulances, are diverted for transporting items such as cement and foodstuffs.
He stressed that the newly provided vehicles are intended to support the ISD’s mandate of educating the public on government policies and programmes, and not for personal or unrelated activities.
According to him, the initiative forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that accurate and timely information reaches communities across the country.
Hon. Eduamoah Okyere further urged the department to properly maintain the vehicles to ensure their longevity, adding that he would personally monitor their usage. He also called on residents in the Central Region to report any misuse of the vehicles, particularly if they are seen transporting unapproved items.
The Central Regional Director of the ISD, Linda Bimpong, who received the vehicles on behalf of the department, assured that they would be used responsibly and maintained diligently.
She noted that the department had long awaited such logistical support, explaining that the vans would significantly improve their operations and enable them to reach more communities effectively.
Madam Bimpong added that the vehicles would be used to educate the public on government initiatives, including sanitation, agriculture, and employment programmes, while simplifying key policies to enhance public understanding.
She described the intervention as timely and pledged that the department would fully utilise the vehicles for their intended purpose to benefit residents across the region.
