The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour, Abraham Koomson, has called for a reshuffle at the Attorney-General’s Department, raising concerns about the effectiveness of Ghana’s fight against corruption.

Mr. Koomson argued that while the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) remains a crucial institution, its current leadership may be limiting its impact.

According to him, the challenge lies not in the structure of the office but in its leadership, pointing specifically to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

He criticised what he described as a lack of decisive action in prosecuting corruption-related cases.

He warned that the perceived inaction is eroding public confidence in the country’s anti-corruption framework.

Mr. Koomson made the remarks during an interview on Ahotor FM on Saturday, April 18 reacting to the impasse betewen the Atorney-General's office and the Special Prosecutor.

His comments come in the wake of a recent ruling by the Accra High Court, which held that the OSP does not have independent prosecutorial authority and must refer criminal cases to the Attorney-General’s Department.

The decision has reignited national debate over the mandate and independence of the OSP, with stakeholders divided on how best to strengthen Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.

Despite his criticism, Mr. Koomson maintained that the establishment of the OSP remains a positive initiative, but insisted that leadership changes are necessary to ensure it delivers on its mandate.
