Ghana pushes MICE ambition at Meetings Africa in Johannesburg
Ghana is stepping up efforts to position itself as West Africa’s preferred hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) at this year’s Meetings Africa trade show in Johannesburg.
The country’s participation underscores a strategic focus on benchmarking against leading global markets, deepening high-level business-to-business (B2B) engagements and converting international visibility into measurable economic opportunities.
The delegation is led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, with strong backing from the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie.
The initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s broader agenda to position Ghana as a prime destination for global business meetings and conferences.
During the event, the Ghanaian delegation led by Deputy Chief Executive Officer for GTA, Gilbert Aggrey, engaged with key industry players, including Shamilla Chettiar, Chief Executive Officer of South African Tourism, as well as international tour operators and destination marketing companies who visited Ghana’s exhibition stand.
The team also interacted with Francis Doku, West Africa Regional Representative for Africa Tourism Partners and CEO of Maestro Africa Group, among other stakeholders.
Ghana’s presence at the event also fostered collaboration with fellow African exhibitors, including representatives from Zambia, whose stand was located opposite Ghana’s, reinforcing the spirit of continental partnership.
Officials say the country is ready to host major international events, deepen partnerships and take a leadership role in Africa’s growing MICE industry, positioning tourism as a key driver of economic growth and job creation.
