The Government of Ghana has officially received a donation of 2,000 metric tons of fertiliser from the Kingdom of Morocco, in a move aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity and advancing the country’s food security agenda.

The fertiliser consignment was handed over during a brief ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Receiving the donation, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto- Ablakwa, expressed gratitude to the Moroccan government, describing the gesture as both timely and impactful.

He noted that the support aligns with Ghana’s strategic efforts to enhance food production and ensure long-term food security.

The Minister further disclosed that Morocco has shown interest in supporting Ghana’s fertiliser production capacity, a development he said could significantly improve the country’s agricultural value chain.

He also highlighted ongoing bilateral cooperation in areas such as visa facilitation and sports development, which are expected to deepen people-to-people relations between the two nations.

Morocco’s Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil, indicated that the donation represents the second consignment of fertiliser support to Ghana, underscoring the strong and longstanding ties between the two countries.

She reiterated Morocco’s commitment to supporting agricultural development across Africa, adding that the fertiliser will help boost farm productivity, build resilience, and mitigate the impact of global challenges such as climate change and rising input costs.

She also acknowledged the role of OCP Africa in coordinating farmer support and capacity-building initiatives to ensure effective utilisation of the fertiliser.

Chief Director at the Ministry, Ambassador Khadijah, described the donation as a tangible outcome of sustained diplomatic engagement between Ghana and Morocco.

She noted that the support will contribute meaningfully to national efforts to improve agricultural output and strengthen food systems.
