Ghana records 1,038 Mpox cases, 8 deaths as infections decline
The Government of Ghana has reported a total of 1,038 confirmed Mpox cases and 8 deaths as of March 3, 2026, with most fatalities occurring among persons with underlying health conditions.
Answering questions on the floor of Parliament, the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akando the indicated that 124 districts across all regions, representing 47.51 per cent, have recorded confirmed cases.
According to him, the Greater Accra Region and the Western Region remain the most affected areas, with only one patient currently on admission, adding that there are no critical cases, reflecting progress in managing the outbreak.
The Minister revealed that the national response has been strengthened through coordinated emergency operations, intensified surveillance, and contact tracing with a 21-day follow-up period.
The Minister also revealed that the medical bills of such patients are being taken care of by the government to avoid burdening the patients affected.
He further noted that Mpox is no longer classified as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, but the government remains committed to strengthening the country’s health security system.
The Minister urged Members of Parliament to support the dissemination of accurate information to the public as the country continues efforts to contain the disease.
