NHIS clears the air: No outstanding debts to health facilities – Central Director
Kojo Sekyere Koi Thompson, Central Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has affirmed that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) currently owes no debts to health facilities across Ghana.
Speaking at the commissioning of a new NHIS office in Moree, Abura Asebu Kwamankese District, Mr Thompson said the agency is financially sound and that President John Mahama’s “resetting agenda” will ensure any previous obligations are immediately settled.
He challenged critics to come forward for debate, insisting that no facility has submitted claims against the NHIS.
“Ghana is now in a comfortable position for health delivery,” he stated.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Abura Asebu Kwamankese, Daniel Mensah Wardy, pledged to strengthen health services in the district and urged residents to register and make use of the new NHIS office.
In a related interview, Abura Asebu Kwamankese Member of Parliament (MP) and Presidential Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, reiterated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government owes no health facilities under the NHIS.
He also emphasised plans to expand healthcare access across the constituency and accelerate development before the end of his term.
“I have Abura Asebu Kwamankese at heart as a minister,” he affirmed, promising significant growth in the near future.
