The National Democratic Congress (NDC) UK & Ireland Chapter has inaugurated and sworn in the executive body of the Tertiary Education Institution Network (TEIN) at the University of Bradford, marking a significant milestone in the history of the party’s activities in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The inauguration, which took place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Leeds formed part of the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter’s Northern Zone Conference and Branch Elections.

The establishment of TEIN Bradford makes the University of Bradford the first tertiary institution within the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter to have a formally established and inaugurated TEIN branch.

The historic development brings together students and young people within the university community under the umbrella of TEIN, creating a structured platform for political education, civic engagement, leadership development and participation in the activities of the NDC.

Seven-member executive sworn into office

The newly inaugurated TEIN Bradford executive is led by Bernard K. Osei-Marfo, who was sworn in as President; Mr Clement J. B. Lugunia, who assumes the position of Vice President; Mr Abdul Malik Adam who serves as the Secretary; Mrs Nancy Araba Aggrey, the Women’s Organiser; Mr Kojo Adansi Acquah, the Treasurer; Mr Andrews Adjei, the Communications Officer; and Mrs Pascaline Ahey, the Organiser.

The executives pledged to serve the interests of the organisation, promote unity and discipline, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of TEIN and the NDC. 

The inauguration was attended by members and executives of the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter, representatives of the Leeds Branch, members of TEIN Bradford and other supporters of the party.

TEIN Bradford President commends NDC UK-Ireland and NDC Leeds Branch

In his acceptance speech, the TEIN Bradford President, Mr Bernard K. Osei-Marfo, described the inauguration as a fulfilled prophecy while thanking President John Dramani Mahama, his executives, the party executives in Ghana and the extended branches in the diaspora for making NDC attractive and the choice for Ghanaians.

He opined that the excellent implementation of the reset agenda has shifted the narrative that branded the NDC as a party without intellectuals. He expressed delight in the hope that the President Mahama-led administration has brought while calling on fellow intellectuals both home and abroad to join the NDC as patriotic citizens who want to move Ghana forward. Bernard expressed profound appreciation to the executive body of the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter for their support towards the establishment of the pioneer TEIN branch in the United Kingdom. 

He singled out Mr Conrad Dumbah, who has recently been appointed Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency in Ghana, for commendation. Mr Osei-Marfo praised Mr Dumbah for his wisdom, visionary leadership and the transformation he has brought to the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter during his tenure, moving the chapter from 13 branches to 30 branches amidst other groundbreaking achievements since he took over the chapter in 2023. 

He said the Chairman's leadership has helped create an environment in which new initiatives and structures could emerge and develop, describing the establishment of TEIN Bradford as one of the outcomes of that broader institutional development and legacies of Mr Conrad Dumbah.

Bernard expressed his appreciation to the founding members, patrons, individuals and groups whose support contributed to the establishment of the pioneer branch. He particularly commended the Leeds NDC Branch for their immense contribution to the establishment and development of TEIN Bradford, describing the branch’s support as instrumental to bringing the initiative to fruition. Mr Bernard Osei-Marfo extended special appreciation to the Leeds Branch Chairman, Mr Collins Manu, the Secretary, Mr Joseph Nkrumah, Mr Karlis Danso, Ms Patricia Gyimah and the entire executives of the Leeds Branch.

He also thanked Pastor Kofi and Rhoda Amoateng Owusu of Newjoy International Gospel Church and Pastor Ebenezer Duncan Eghan for their support and contribution towards the successful establishment of the UK-Ireland’s premier TEIN branch.

Bernard also paid tribute to former executives of the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter, acknowledging that the inauguration of TEIN Bradford was made possible in part by the foundation laid by previous leaders of the Chapter.

He acknowledged that the achievement was not the work of one individual or group, but the result of collective effort and support from people who believed in the importance of creating a formal, sustainable TEIN structure in the UK-Ireland chapter of the NDC.

Conrad Dumbah calls for TEIN to be shielded from partisan politicking

Chairman of the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter, Conrad Dumbah, who addressed the gathering, spoke extensively about the circumstances surrounding the establishment of TEIN Bradford and emphasised the need to protect the organisation from unnecessary political interference. Mr Dumbah expressed his desire to see TEIN develop as a credible institution for nurturing young people, rather than becoming an instrument for individual political interests or personal political gain.

He explained that he deliberately shielded the establishment of TEIN Bradford from political competition and premature interference. According to him, he ensured that the initiative was allowed to develop quietly until he was satisfied that it had attained the necessary structure and readiness to operate as a viable branch.

The Chairman disclosed that the initial convening of the branch in 2025 was kept from his executives until he was convinced that the initiative was sufficiently prepared for formal inauguration. It was only after reaching that stage, that he engaged key members including the National Youth Organiser and the executives to prepare the group and plan the inauguration of the first TEIN branch in NDC UK and Ireland, he explained.

Mr Dumbah's position underscored his broader call for TEIN to be allowed to grow as a platform for student leadership, political education and youth development, rather than being reduced to a tool for political factionalism, as he believes a sustainable TEIN aligns with the reset agenda of President John Dramani Mahama.

He further expressed appreciation to the President John Dramani Mahama and his cabinet, the national executives of NDC in Ghana and the membership of the NDC for their bold policies and transformational governance.

A new chapter for student political engagement in the UK

The establishment of TEIN Bradford represents a new chapter in the development of the NDC's youth and student structures in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

As the first institution within the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter to establish a TEIN branch, the University of Bradford is expected to serve as a model for the development of similar structures in other tertiary institutions across the UK and Ireland.

The new executive is expected to focus on building an active student network, encouraging civic and political education, creating opportunities for leadership development and strengthening engagement between students, the NDC and the wider Ghanaian community in the diaspora.

The inauguration also reinforces the growing involvement of young people in political and civic activities within the Ghanaian diaspora, while providing a formal structure through which students can participate in discussions about Ghana's democratic development and national affairs.

With the successful inauguration, TEIN Bradford now formally begins its work as the pioneer institutional TEIN branch within the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter, opening what organisers hope will be a new era of student leadership and political engagement across the Chapter.
