Chief Justice calls for stronger collaboration between Judiciray and Parliament
Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has paid a courtesy call on the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, in a meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Judiciary and the Legislature.
The visit, which took place at Parliament House on Monday, was described by Speaker Bagbin as historic, noting that it signified a renewed call for cooperation between the two arms of government in consolidating Ghana’s democratic governance.
During the engagement, the Chief Justice shared his vision for enhancing the administration of justice in the country.
He outlined key reforms, including expanding access to justice, introducing a shift system for court operations to reduce delays in the judicial process, and establishing specialised courts to deal with illegal mining and related offences, particularly those highlighted by the Public Accounts Committee.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie also touched on reforms in legal education, stressing the need for training programmes that are responsive to emerging trends, technologies, and the evolving demands of the legal profession.
To support the implementation of these reforms, the Chief Justice appealed for practical assistance, including secure office accommodation for the Judiciary, improved security for judicial officers, and expedited clearance to enable the recruitment of additional staff and specialised experts.
The discussions were characterised by mutual respect and a shared commitment to public service, with both leaders reaffirming the importance of dialogue, institutional reforms, and sustained investment in strengthening Ghana’s justice system for the benefit of all citizens.
