Voters in Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region head to the polls today to elect a new Member of Parliament in a closely watched by-election, with five candidates battling for the vacant seat.

More than 40,000 registered voters in Ayawaso East are expected to head to the polls on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, to elect a new Member of Parliament.

The contest has attracted significant attention, as political parties intensify their campaigns to secure victory in the constituency.

Electoral officials say all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process across polling stations.

Security personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order, while the Electoral Commission has assured residents of transparency and fairness throughout the exercise.

The outcome of the by-election is expected to shape the political landscape in the constituency, with observers keenly monitoring voter turnout and the overall conduct of the polls.

The five candidates are:

Baba Jamal– Representing the National Democratic Congress

 Baba Ali– Representing the New Patriotic Party

Umar Sander Mohammed,  Independent Candidate 1

David Kanor, Independent Candidate 2 and Ibrahim Iddrisu, who is representing the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG)

 

 

The candidates are vying for the parliamentary seat in today’s by-election, with voting about to start across polling stations in the constituency.
