The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has issued a strong warning to government, cautioning that the opposition party may take decisive action if what it describes as continued harassment of its members is not halted.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, May 19, during a visit by an NPP delegation to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Mr. Mustapha said the party was increasingly concerned about what it views as a pattern of intimidation targeting its members.

He stressed that the NPP, as a major political force with nationwide support, would not remain passive if the situation persists, adding that the party is prepared to mobilise its supporters if necessary.

“If this does not stop, we will mobilise our people and make the country extremely difficult to govern,” he warned, urging authorities to ensure the protection and rights of all party members.

His remarks come in the wake of the detention of the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, who was remanded for two weeks on May 13, 2026, over allegations relating to offensive conduct and the publication of false statements against a judge.

Mr. Mustapha indicated that the party is closely monitoring developments surrounding the case and cautioned against any harm coming to its members in custody.

He further warned that continued pressure on party officials could trigger a stronger and more coordinated response from the opposition.

While reaffirming the party’s commitment to constructive engagement in national governance, he insisted that the NPP would resist any attempt to silence or intimidate its members.
