Sam George suggests Afenyo-Markin felt emboldened to attack Clerk to Appointments Committee because of her gender
Ningo-Prampram MP and Minister-designate for Communication, Digital Technology & Innovations Samuel Nartey George has strongly condemned “the despicable behaviour” of Effutu MP and Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin towards the Clerk to Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah.
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, Sam George, as he is popularly called, decried Afenyo-Markin’s attacks on the Gifty Gobah, calling her integrity into question by accusing her of being partisan and biased towards the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“This shameful behaviour is unbecoming of a Leader of the august House,” Sam George said, adding: “I am absolutely certain he would not have dared to do this to a male Clerk of Parliament.
“Madam Gifty Gobah has been a staff of Parliament for 18 years and deserves the respect her office commands. Such misogynistic and narcissistic behaviour must be roundly condemned by all well-meaning members of society and Parliament itself.”
Sam George suggested: “The Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, must formally raise the issue with Rt. Hon Alban S.K. Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament.
“After the House has passed the Affirmative Action Law, we cannot condone and be complicit in such uncouth behaviour.”
He expressed his support for the Clerk to the Appointments Committee, and extoled her soberness amidst the accusations levelled against her, in conclusion.
“Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah, I and many more decent people stand with you. Be encouraged and stand strong with your head held high. Your poise and composure even when you were under the barrage of insults is remarkable. Such a role model for our daughters,” Sam George said.
“Be calm!”
Meanwhile, Afenyo-Markin, the Co-Chair of the Appointments Committee has explained he took issue with Gifty Gobah over her miscommunication and lapses in protocol in facilitating the ongoing vetting of ministerial nominees.
