Supreme Court upholds NPP’s Mathew Nyindam as Kpandai MP, quashes High Court ruling
In a decisive 4-1 ruling delivered today, the Supreme Court has overturned the Tamale High Court’s judgment that had nullified the parliamentary election results for the Kpandai Constituency.
The apex court ruled that the High Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the election petition filed by the defeated NDC parliamentary candidate, as it was submitted outside the statutory time limit mandated by law.
The decision followed a judicial review application by Lawyer Gary Nimako, Director of Legal for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
As a result, the proposed parliamentary rerun in Kpandai will no longer take place, and Mathew Nyindam of the NPP remains the duly elected Member of Parliament for the constituency.
The ruling underscores the importance of adhering to procedural timelines in election disputes and reaffirms Nyindam’s mandate as the representative of Kpandai in Parliament.
