Development economist and former Presidential Staffer PV Jantuah Boateng Dadson has cautioned the NDC to take the fight against illegal mining seriously if the party wants to remain in government.

Speaking on Anopa Ahenfie on Ahenfie TV, he said the current expansion of galamsey activities should concern the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly given the criticism it levelled against the NPP while in opposition.

“Looking at how galamsey is expanding, we have to be serious as NDC if we want to continue governing Ghana,” he said.

Mr Boateng Dadson cited the road from Barekese through Fufuo to Adugyama which, he said, was untouched by illegal mining in December 2025.

“Only three months ago, I used this same road and there's galamsey on both left and right,” he bemoaned.

He urged the NDC to learn from the challenges the NPP faced over illegal mining while it was in government.

“Ask yourself if we have learned anything from all that NPP went through with respect to galamsey. No, I don't think so,” he said.

He also cited illegal mining activities in Bosomtwe and Adanse Asokwa areas where, he noted, galamsey had previously not been a concern but today is.

He said reports that illegal mining in Adanse Asokwa had reached the backyard of a police station raise serious questions about enforcement.

“They say the Adanse Asokwa galamsey has even reached the backyard of a police station. You ask yourself what the police head is doing in that area,” he said.

Mr Boateng Dadson also alleged that some NDC members are involved in illegal mining, citing a statement by President John Mahama in which he acknowledged same.

“I plead with the president to name these people. Let us not allow their terrible acts to affect the innocent members of the NDC,” he urged.
