The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has called for veteran forward Andre Ayew to be included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Agbana said while Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has the final decision on squad selection, Ayew deserves consideration because of his dedication and long service to the national team.

“We need to reward sacrifice, hard work and loyalty. Andre Ayew has shown enormous commitment to the Black Stars, and I believe he should be included,” he explained on Citi FM.

The MP noted that the 36-year-old forward recently scored his first goal for Dutch club NAC Breda, showing he remains competitive.

Agbana also cited the case of former Ghana winger Laryea Kingston, who missed the 2006 and 2010 World Cups despite contributing during qualification, describing it as a personal regret.

He further expressed reservations about players who previously declined to represent Ghana but later seek opportunities in the national team.

Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player and former captain, remains a subject of debate as coach Otto Addo prepares to name his final squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The tournament is hosted this year by Mexico, USA, and Canada.

Ghana, making its fifth appearance, will take on Panama, England, and Croatia, in the order.
