AFCON 2027 qualifying groups confirmed after Cairo draw

Sports News
AFCON 2027 will have 12 groups

The official draw for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers has taken place at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters.

A total of 48 countries have been split into 12 groups of four teams each. The main tournament will be hosted together by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

Even though Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda automatically qualify as hosts, they are still playing in these qualifying matches. In any group that has a host country, only one other team can qualify for the tournament.

Qualifying Schedule

Because of a shorter calendar, all qualifying matches will be played across three international breaks:

- Matchdays 1 and 2: September 21 – October 6, 2026

- Matchdays 3 and 4: November 9 – 17, 2026

- Matchdays 5 and 6: March 22 – 30, 2027
