Carlos Queiroz urges Black Stars to prioritise team unity ahead of 2026 World Cup

Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has called on Black Stars players to remain disciplined and united ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the team’s collective interest must come before individual ambitions.

The 73-year-old Portuguese tactician, who was appointed last month on a short-term contract as successor to Otto Addo, is expected to lead Ghana at the tournament in North America later this year.

Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, Queiroz stressed the importance of commitment and teamwork within the national team setup.

“Nobody will be above the team,” he said.

“Everybody must play with only one thing in mind — Ghana, the pride of the nation and the happiness of the people.”

The former Real Madrid coach has previously managed countries including Egypt, Iran and Colombia.

Ghana, four-time African champions, will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

As part of preparations for the tournament, Ghana is scheduled to play international friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.

Queiroz is expected to announce his final squad for the World Cup on June 1.
