The Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies of the University of Ghana (UG), in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has commenced a License ‘D’ Coaching course for aspiring football coaches.

The eight-day intensive course officially took off on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the ultramodern lecture theatre at the University of Ghana, with the current phase expected to conclude on Friday, May 22, 2026.

The programme is strategically designed for students across various levels who are offering Physical Education and Sport Studies at the University of Ghana, as well as students from other universities interested in exploring a career in football coaching.

The department stated that the initiative aligns with its mandate and ultimate vision to ensure its students are practically abreast with modern trends in football coaching, providing them with a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and field experience.

Throughout the course, participants will undergo both classroom theory sessions and practical training on the football field.

At the conclusion of the training, participants will face practical assessments and theoretical examinations.

Successful candidates will be awarded a License ‘D’ Coaching certificate, qualifying them to practice professional football coaching at the grassroots level.

This collaboration forms a key part of the strategic objectives of the GFA's Ghana Football School, which seeks to partner with tertiary educational institutions nationwide to train more coaches, thereby accelerating the growth and development of grassroots football in the country.
