A 71-year-old Everton supporter has been arrested and bailed following allegations of racist abuse directed at Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo during a 3-3 draw at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday.

Merseyside Police made the arrest on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after the incident was reported by both fans and stewards.

The suspect's bail conditions include restrictions preventing him from being within one mile of any designated sports stadium for four hours before, during, and after matches.

Manchester City issued a statement condemning the abuse directed at Semenyo and expressed further disappointment over "vile racist social media posts" targeting defender Marc Guehi.

The online abuse toward Guehi followed a defensive error that led to Everton’s opening goal by Thierno Barry.

City confirmed they are providing full support to both players and welcomed the intervention by Everton and local authorities.

Everton also released a statement affirming their zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination.

The club credited the swift identification of the individual to the combined efforts of supporters and staff, reiterating that such behavior has no place in the sport or society.
