Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro

AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro has been named the fourth best young goalkeeper in the world, according to the latest rankings released by the CIES Football Observatory on April 29, 2026.

The 21-year-old follows only Mike Penders (RC Strasbourg, on loan from Chelsea), Jonas Urbig (Bayern Munich), and Robin Risser (RC Lens) in the global assessment of rising talents at the position.

Performance Statistics

Owusu-Oduro has maintained a consistent presence for AZ Alkmaar this season, featuring in 36 appearances across all competitions, including the Europa Conference League. His season statistics include:

- Clean Sheets: 13

- Goals Conceded: 46

His contributions have been vital in keeping AZ Alkmaar in sixth place in the Dutch Eredivisie, positioning the club to secure European football for the upcoming season.

International Eligibility and the 2026 World Cup

Born in the Netherlands but of Ghanaian descent, Owusu-Oduro remains eligible to represent the Black Stars. His high ranking comes at a critical time as Ghana prepares for its fifth FIFA World Cup appearance later this year.

The Black Stars have been drawn into Group L and are scheduled to face:

- Panama (June 17)

- England (June 23)

- Croatia (June 27)

As the tournament approaches, Owusu-Oduro’s form and world ranking are expected to intensify discussions regarding his potential involvement with the Ghanaian national team. The shot-stopper, who will turn 22 on July 2, remains one of the most discussed dual-nationality prospects ahead of the June squad deadline.
