The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed experienced Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars.

Queiroz replaces Otto Addo, who was dismissed in late March following a series of disappointing results in international friendlies, including a 5-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany.

Addo, who was in his second stint as head coach, managed eight wins and nine defeats in 22 matches despite guiding Ghana national football team to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Announcing the appointment on Monday, the GFA said its Executive Council, in consultation with key stakeholders, had agreed on Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team.

Queiroz has managed several national teams, including Portugal, Iran, Egypt, Colombia, South Africa and Oman. He has led teams to multiple FIFA World Cup tournaments, including South Africa in 2002, Portugal in 2010, and Iran in 2014, 2018 and 2022.

At club level, he has served as head coach of Real Madrid and worked as an assistant coach at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Queiroz is expected to begin work immediately as Ghana prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars have been drawn in a group alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
