The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the technical foundations of Para sport by sponsoring Ghana’s participation in the 2026 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Annual Classification Meeting, held from 15–18 July 2026 in Bonn, Germany.

Representing Ghana at the prestigious global forum was Dr Eric Tetteh Ayertey, a member of NPC Ghana’s Medical, Classification and Anti-Doping Team, whose participation was fully sponsored by NPC Ghana under the leadership of its President, Mr. Samson Deen, as part of the Committee’s strategic investment in developing world-class technical expertise for the country’s Paralympic Movement.

The IPC Annual Classification Meeting is the Paralympic Movement’s premier global gathering dedicated to advancing athlete classification. It brings together classification leaders, medical experts, researchers, International Federations, National Paralympic Committees, Regional Organisations and technical classifiers to discuss emerging developments, share best practices, strengthen international collaboration and safeguard fairness and integrity across Para sport.

Throughout the four-day meeting, Dr. Ayertey participated in high-level technical workshops, educational sessions, policy discussions and strategic engagements focused on the continuous evolution of athlete classification.

He also engaged with leading international experts, exchanged knowledge on current classification practices and established valuable professional networks that will support the continued development of Ghana’s national classification programme.

The meeting also featured the 2026 IPC Classification Recognition Awards, where four distinguished international classification leaders were honoured for their outstanding lifetime contributions to advancing classification systems and protecting the integrity of Paralympic sport. Their achievements highlighted the critical role that education, research, innovation and technical excellence continue to play in the growth of the Paralympic Movement worldwide.

NPC Ghana believes the knowledge and expertise gained from the meeting will significantly strengthen Ghana’s classification capacity, enhance the development of local classifiers, improve athlete services and ensure the country continues to align with the latest international standards and best practices.

He added that NPC Ghana will continue to create opportunities for its medical and technical personnel to participate in international education programmes, conferences and certification initiatives, ensuring that Ghana remains at the forefront of Paralymic sport development in Africa.

The successful participation of Dr. Eric Tetteh Ayertey at the 2026 IPC Annual Classification Meeting marks another important milestone in NPC Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity, promote excellence in athlete classification and enhance the country’s technical readiness for future international competitions, including the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, future World Championships and the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

Under the leadership of President Samson Deen, NPC Ghana continues to prioritise investment in people, knowledge and technical excellence as essential pillars for building a stronger, more competitive and globally respected Paralympic Movement in Ghana.
