Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has rallied support for the Black Queens as the team kicks off its campaign at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco today.

The Black Queens face Cape Verde in their opening group match of the tournament. 

In a message posted on Facebook, Dr Bawumia expressed his warmest wishes to the national women’s team and urged them to approach the tournament with courage and determination.

“My warmest wishes to the Black Queens as you begin your journey at the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco today against Cape Verde,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He reminded the team of the broader significance of the competition.

“Beyond glory for Ghana, this championship offers a pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil,” he noted. 

Dr Bawumia concluded with a rallying charge to the players: “Play with courage and make Ghana proud, our dear Queens.”

The Black Queens’ participation in the WAFCON is being viewed as a pivotal moment for women’s football in Ghana, with qualification for the World Cup in Brazil serving as a prize, apart from the ultimate trophy. 

The message is a timely morale booster and a national rallying call for the Black Queens as the team seeks to restore Ghana’s place among Africa’s elite and return to the global stage.
